Greenpower inspires young people in STEM by challenging them to work together in teams to design, build and race a single-seater electric vehicle. Greenpower Education Trust is a UK-based charity now in its 25th year. Currently, over 700 teams and 10,000 students across the UK participate in Greenpower each year. Greenpower Tasmania joins a growing list of international licensees, including the USA, Iberia and Benelux. The Greenpower season concludes with an International Final, inviting champion teams from across the world to represent their schools and nations in a race event.
Greenpower consists of three distinct categories with the Goblin category for students from years 3-6, F24 for years 5-10 and F24+ for years 11 to age 25. Greenpower Tasmania's current focus is on developing the F24 category to form greater connections and transitions between primary and high school STEM education.
Thanks to the generous support of Schools Plus, Australia’s leading educational charity, Montello Primary School is the first school in Australia to participate in the Greenpower program – with two F24 electric vehicles built and managed by teams of Montello's grade 5/6 students.
An official Greenpower Tasmania launch event will be held in Burnie in November 2024 with Greenpower Tasmania expanding to become a regional Tasmanian competition from 2025 onwards.
