FIRST LEGO League in NW Tasmania
GreenSTEM Education is proud to bring the excitement of FIRST LEGO League (FLL) to NW Tasmania, making STEM learning accessible and inspiring for students in the region.
Reflecting on Our Success:
2023 FLL Challenge Somerset Regional
The 2023 Somerset Regional made history as the first-ever FLL tournament held on Tasmania’s NW Coast. Hosted by GreenSTEM Education, this landmark event allowed local students, who had previously needed to travel to Launceston, Hobart, or participate online, to compete closer to home. Teams from across the North, North-West, and West Coasts joined, showcasing their talents in robot design, programming, innovation, and teamwork.
2024 FLL Challenge Burnie Regional
The 2024 Burnie Regional, held on Saturday, 16th November at the UTAS Cradle Coast Campus and The Makers Technology and Innovation Hub, continued the momentum and introduced FLL to the wider community - with well over 500 people attending throughout the day. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Burnie Beach and Bass Strait, this event highlighted the incredible STEM accomplishments of young people across NW Tasmania.
Check out our 2024 FLL Burnie Regional Gallery for event photos and highlights from this exciting day!
GreenSTEM Education extends a huge thank you to the Burnie City Council, UTAS Cradle Coast Campus, and all volunteers and participants who helped make this event an enormous success.

Join Us in Empowering the Future of STEM
FIRST LEGO League is a global competition that encourages students to explore STEM through four key components:
We currently support FLL teams at Montello Primary School, Somerset Primary School, Parklands High School, Burnie High School, Natone Primary School and Burnie Community House, with plans to extend support to more public schools and community groups across Tasmania. Our teams have achieved considerable success in a short time, qualifying for National Championships and winning awards across all levels of the competition including the Champion’s Award, Core Values Award, Rising All-Stars, Coach/Mentor Award and Innovation Project Award.
