Future Makers

Inspiring the Next Generation of Thinkers, Creators, and Problem Solvers

Future Makers is GreenSTEM Education’s early years STEM program, designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in young learners through hands-on, play-based experiences.

📍 The Makers – UTAS Cradle Coast, Burnie
🎯 Designed for children aged 3–8

💡 What is Future Makers?

Future Makers introduces young children to STEM through play, exploration, and guided discovery.

These sessions are designed to build:

  • Curiosity and creativity
  • Early problem-solving skills
  • Confidence in trying new things
  • Foundational STEM understanding

Future Makers is the first step in the GreenSTEM pathway, leading into programs such as STEM Unlimited and Maker Lab.

🧩 Program Structure

Future Makers runs every Thursday during school terms, with sessions tailored to different age groups and stages of development.

👶 Ages 3–6 (must be supervised by parent/carer)

Two session options are available:

🕚 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Open Play STEM
A flexible, play-based session where children explore a range of hands-on STEM activities at their own pace.

Activities may include:

  • LEGO and construction play
  • Early engineering challenges
  • Creative problem-solving tasks
  • Exploration of materials, movement, and design

This session is ideal for developing confidence, curiosity, and independence through play.

🕐 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM | Guided STEM Challenges
A more structured session where children engage in simple, guided STEM activities with support from educators.

Activities may include:

  • Building and design challenges
  • Early robotics and sequencing concepts
  • Hands-on problem-solving tasks
  • Collaborative learning experiences

This session helps children begin to think more deeply about how things work and how to create solutions.

🌏 Why STEM Matters

The skills children develop today will shape the opportunities available to them tomorrow.

STEM skills are no longer optional—they are becoming essential for almost every future career.

From problem-solving and creativity to digital literacy and critical thinking, these skills underpin success in a rapidly changing world. Whether students pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, the arts, trades, or entirely new industries, STEM capabilities provide a strong foundation.

On the North West Coast of Tasmania, this is especially important.

Our region is experiencing significant growth in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies, creating real opportunities for the next generation. Future Makers helps young people begin developing the skills, confidence, and mindset needed to be part of this future.

🚀 Building Future Pathways

At GreenSTEM Education, we are committed to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to explore their interests and realise their potential.

Future Makers is about more than early learning—it’s about:

  • Building confidence from a young age
  • Developing transferable skills for any pathway
  • Inspiring curiosity and ambition
  • Supporting young people to do and be anything they aspire to

This is the beginning of a journey that can lead to limitless possibilities.

👩‍🏫 Led by an Experienced Educator

Future Makers is led by an experienced early childhood educator, ensuring sessions are:

  • Age-appropriate
  • Engaging and inclusive
  • Supportive of different learning styles
  • Focused on positive early learning experiences

Parents and carers are encouraged to stay, participate, and learn alongside their child during each session.

🚀 Pathway to the Future

Future Makers is the beginning of a broader journey for all ages and through all levels of education:

Future Makers → STEM Unlimited → Maker Lab

This free pathway provides continuous, relevant and inspiring opportunities for young people to grow, develop, and explore STEM at every stage.
